Which one is your favourite?
GUESS, in addition of being a worldwide fashion icon, is also known for its ad campaigns, most of all its black and white ads that earned it several advertising awards. Actually, even many of these ads were great driving forces behind models and actresses that became famous shortly after working with the American brand.
And today on the EscapeShoes blog, we’re going to show you the top 5 ads that caught our eye the most. Shall we start?
5. Adriana Lima
Nowadays, you know her as one of Victoria’s Secret’s most popular angels, but in reality Adriana Lima had her start in 2000, by participating in GUESS’ ads. This Brazilian model, with her tanned skin, long hair and full lips, was placed at the front stage of its ads, which showed a certain youth and exoticism, especially due to the model. Now, she’s one of the best-known faces in the runway, working with some of the biggest brands in fashion today.
Actress Drew Barrymore, unlike many other models present in GUESS’ ads, was already a well-known name, after the popular film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and many others. This was a surprise, since the brand had a reputation of hiring new and unknown models. However, in 1993 the actress was asked by Paul Marciano to be part of his new ad, adding a little bit of rebellion to her sweeter and feminine look.
The so-called ultimate “Guess Girl”, model Anna Nicole Smith also had her start with this brand’s advertising campaigns, after working at Playboy under the name Vickie Smith. Despite her tumultuous personal life, her voluptuous hair, curves and big personality gave a new life to the ads and even refer to her as the modern Marilyn Monroe. Sadly, the model passed away recently in 2007, but her photos for GUESS continue to be ones of the brand’s most famous.
French model Laetitia Casta has worked with many fashion and cosmetic brands, but her GUESS ads are the ones that earned her the most recognition so far. In truth, the first photo that we show you above is one of the most famous throughout the brand’s entire history! After working with GUESS, she appeared in over 100 popular magazine covers, became a Victoria’s Secret’s angel and a spokeswoman for L’Oreal.
And the first place goes to… Claudia Schiffer! This German model started her career with GUESS in 1989, with 19 years old, and it was from that moment on that was defined the standard of what any “Guess Girl” should be. Since Claudia Schiffer incorporated the glam and chic girl that basically characterized the brand’s style. And in 2012, to celebrate the brand’s 30th anniversary, the model was invited for a new ad campaign, together with photographer Ellen Von Unwerth, with who worked back then, to create a collection of photos that reminded us of the first time that Claudia worked as a model at GUESS.
