How to keep your shoes impeccable

Conserve and take care of your shoes!

We all love shoes, it’s not worth it to deny it… After all, they end up being our best friends! They never leave our feet and walk around with us everywhere! At home, at work, at the beach and no matter the weather, either it’s sunny, raining or snowing. They sacrifice themselves for us to look elegant, stylish and protected.

The shoe’s without a doubt the most important accessory, because it defines your look, either in a work or more casual context. Mankind’s seen by what they wear and it really ends up being true. I’ve always heard that neat hair and impeccable shoes completely change the way a person’s seen. And it’s true! Imagine you’re going to a job interview and you wear well-kept shoes versus badly-kept and worn-out shoes, of course it’s impossible not to notice, because one of the first things that we notice before even talking to someone is their physical look.

However, in order for your feet to be impeccable you don’t need to buy a pair of shoes every week, you just need to take care of the ones you’ve already have! And do you know how to do it? If you don’t, don’t worry. Today on the EscapeShoes blog, we give you a few tips about how to keep your shoes as good as new! Shall we start?

  1.        Don’t use the same shoes several times in a row

I know that you’ve just bought those shoes that you’ve wanted for months and now you don’t want to use any other thing, because you’re in love. I completely understand! However, shoes need to breathe, since they absorb the sweat of our feet and should breathe before being used again, usually for 24 hours.

  1.        Don’t leave your shoes exposed to the sun

Usually, we should leave our shoes in a dry and ventilated place, but most of all in a place that isn’t under the sun. Even when we’re washing them, it’s always good to leave them to dry in a place in the shade, because the sun makes them lose colour. And you don’t want your black sneakers to have orange spots, right?

  1.        Never use kerosene-based greases and creams on leather shoes

Kerosene dries leather. Always choose water-based products that’ll hydrate it. However, don’t overuse these products! Only use them once in a while to return their glow.

And now some low-cost tips, because we all love them!

  1.        Banana

Did you know that the oil and potassium from the banana peel are great to polish and hydrate your shoes? The process’ simple, you just need to take a banana peel that isn’t too ripe or too green and rub the shoe with it as you’d do with grease. Let it act for a few minutes and when it seems like the shoes are dry, clean them with a soft cloth to remove the excess. And done! You’ve already polished your shoes at the price of a banana!

  1.        Talcum powder

What makes your feet and your shoes smell bad is the sweat produced during the day. Talcum powder helps to keep your foot dry so that it doesn’t smell so bad. You can choose to only put talcum powder the night before and remove the excess in the following morning or you can put talcum powder before leaving the house to increase efficiency.
