Do you know what Creepers are? They’re those shoes that are half Oxford and half sneaker, with a thick rubber sole. Recently, they appeared in these last seasons as a new trend, but the truth is that it’s one of those trends that you either love or hate. Even if you don’t follow it, you can’t deny that you’ve already seen some people on the street with these shoes on. Even celebrities can’t escape them! These shoes have appeared on the feet of some of your favourite celebrities, such as Jessie J, Katy Perry, Rihanna and Miley Cyrus.

As you must have guessed, today on the EscapeShoes blog, we’ll talk about this trend that’s already killing it on fashion runways around the world!

In reality, this trend isn’t new, since it appeared for the very first time in the 1940s, during the Second World War, and then it was popularized by the soldiers that used the creepers at nightclubs in London. However, it was with the British subculture Teddy Boy that they mainly gained fame in the fashion world.

Nowadays, they’re used by both men and women that were reinvented by several brands to give them an original and modern touch. And two brands that really took these shoes and to another level were Sixty Seven and Nazare Herois do Mar. Being one Spanish and the other one Portuguese, they’re currently known for their platform and creeper shoes.

It’s true that this brand has several platform shoes, but both the Livian Black Lars and the 77268 Donovan Vino present a design closer to the classic style of the first creepers. Both have laces and a glossy surface that ensures that their dark colours do not go unnoticed. But, it’s especially because of these shades of black and dark wine that they’re so easy to match with any other colour. And, as you can see, their soles are different from each other, since the shoes on the first photo have a sole with a more diagonal shape, being higher at the back than at the front, while the ones on the second image have a straighter platform.

However, if what you’re looking for is a little bit of colour, try the most recent addition to EscapeShoes, also known as NHM, because this brand certainly doesn’t shy away! The thing that especially stands out in its shoes is the straps that appear over the front, replacing the laces. They present a certain metallic touch, thanks to their studs, which attaches them to the shoes, and to their adjustable side buckle. Even the way that these straps are laid reminds us of the traditional Portuguese cross!

Their creeper shoes usually appear with two distinctive main materials: textile or suede. When textile is used, it’s almost always Scottish tartan, for example the Nazare Burberry Red of the first image. The plaid pattern allows interesting and fun combinations of colour, like this case, with its shades of red, blue, purple, black, yellow, green and white. On the other hand, the Suede Brown Stamp on the second photo are made of suede, which contrasts beautifully with the leather strap, and also has that same velvety texture that we’re already accustomed to.
