How to clean suede shoes

All day being careful, by walking on dry surfaces, avoiding mud… and then as soon as you get home, a stain in your suede shoes! Don’t worry, this type of shoes can be cleaned with a few simple steps, and with the help of the products that some of our brands offer for the care of these precious materials.

Suede is a type of leather made with the underside of the animal skin, like deer and lamb. Its softness makes this a very suitable material for garments, like shoes, or even gloves, since it allows transpiration.

Nobuck, on the contrary, is made with the outside of the skin, so the finish, similar to the suede, is extremely silky. It’s less breathable and more water and stain sensitive than suede.

Since they’re “velvety” leathers, both demand a care that won’t take you much of your time, but it’ll guarantee that the leather’s always beautiful. It consists of eliminating with a brush the dirt that accumulates over time. But now you ask: “what do I do with more difficult stains?”

 

Water stains

It’s a sunny day and you’ve decided to go for a walk, but as you return home you’re surprised by a huge storm! Your shoes are soaked and you don’t know what to do? We’ve the solution!

Firstly, leave them to dry in a ventilated room. Don’t place them near a heat source or directly under the sun. If they’re too wet, place paper balls inside to absorb the excess water. Once dry, use Fly London’s special brush for suede to get rid of the rests of dirt, by brushing the suede softly in the opposite direction of the fur. Next, brush it again, but in the same direction as the fur to return it to its initial look.

 

Grass, sauce and mud stains
